Course Attributes Attributes

Course Level Level Course level indicates whether a course is an undergraduate (UG) or graduate (GR) or Professional (PR) level course
Course Number Course# A five-digit number used to identify a specific course within a subject. The third digit used to indicated the general level of the course: 0 = basic skills, 1-2 = undergraduate lower level, 3-4 = undergraduate upper level, 5-6 = graduate, 7-8 = doctoral.
Course Reference Number CRN The Course Reference Number (CRN) is a unique five-digit identifier assigned to each course section within a term. The first digit indicates the course term: 1 = Winter, 2 = Spring, 3 = Summer, and 4 = Fall. CRNs are reused each subsequent term.
Course Restrictions Restrictions

Course Restrictions specify the conditions that limit who can enroll in a course. These restrictions ensure that only eligible students can register based on criteria such as:

  • Class Level – Restricts enrollment to certain academic levels (e.g., only juniors and seniors).
  • Major/Program – Limits registration to students in specific majors or programs.
  • College/Department – Requires students to be part of a particular college or department.
  • Prerequisites/Corequisites – Ensures students have completed or are taking required courses.
  • Campus Location – Restricts access to students at a specific campus.
  • Student Attributes – May include honors status, athlete designation, or special cohorts.
Course Schedule Meeting Time The designated days, times, and location where a course meets at Rowan University. This includes the start and end time, building, and room number. Course Title Course Description Course Title is the official name of a course, providing a concise description of its content and focus. It appears in course catalogs, schedules, and transcripts.
Instructional Method Instructional Method

Instructional Method defines how a course is delivered. Common instructional methods include:

  • Traditional – Fully in-person, with face-to-face instruction in a classroom setting.
  • Non-Traditional – Any delivery format that differs from standard in-person instruction
  • Online – Fully remote learning, either synchronous (real-time virtual classes) or asynchronous (self-paced).
Maximum Enrollment Max The highest number of students allowed to enroll in a course section, as determined by the scheduling department. This limit may be based on instructional design, faculty availability, or institutional policies rather than the physical classroom capacity. Enrollment caps help maintain an optimal learning environment and ensure adequate resources for students. Some sections may have lower limits due to specialized course requirements or accreditation standards.
Maximum Reserved Seats Max Resv The total number of seats designated for specific groups of students within a course section. This number represents the sum of all reserved seat allocations, regardless of how many groups have reservations. It ensures that priority enrollment is maintained for eligible student groups.
Part of Term Part of Term A Part of Term is a subdivision within a term that defines the start and end dates for specific courses. Not all course sections run for the entire term. The deadlines for Drop/Add, Late Drop/Add, Withdrawal, Faculty Attendance Verification, and Final Grades are all calculated based on the start and end date of each part of term.
Remaining Reserved Seats Left Resv The number of reserved seats still available for eligible student groups in a course section at Rowan University. This is calculated as the total reserved seats minus the number of students enrolled under those reservations. Unused reserved seats may be reassigned or opened to general enrollment as needed.
Room Capacity RoomCap The maximum number of students permitted in a classroom based on fire code regulations at Rowan University. This limit ensures compliance with safety regulations and cannot be exceeded.

  • Online: Fully remote courses where all instruction, discussions, and assessments take place in a virtual learning environment.
Subject Subj A subject at Rowan University refers to the abbreviated code representing an academic discipline under which courses are categorized. These subject codes are used to group related courses and may be shared across multiple departments. For example, CS represents Computer Science, and BIOL stands for Biology.
Waitlist Capacity W.Cap The maximum number of students allowed on a course section's waitlist at Rowan University. If a course is full, students can add themselves to the waitlist until this limit is reached. When a seat becomes available, the system automatically notifies the first student on the list and holds the seat for 24 hours. If the student does not register within that timeframe, their spot expires, and the next student is notified.
Waitlist Count W.Count The number of students currently on the waitlist for a course section at Rowan University. These students are waiting for an available seat and will be notified in order when a spot opens. The waitlist count updates as students join or are removed based on registration activity.
